Santo Domingo.- The Transportation Cabinet reported this Friday the activation of a special mobility plan, on the occasion of tomorrow's celebration of Black Friday, a date on which the massive displacement of people towards shopping centers is expected.

The General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) will deploy more than 2,000 agents around the main shopping centers nationwide, "with the aim of guaranteeing traffic flow in these high-traffic environments, as well as on the main roads impacted by commercial activity," the Transportation Cabinet said in a statement.

Regarding public transportation, both the subway and the cable car will have special operating hours starting at 5:30 in the morning. Similarly, bus operators, both from the Metropolitan Bus Services Office (OMSA) and private corridors, will have operational plans to increase frequency on the main road axes impacted by commercial activity. As part of the measures to improve circulation in the areas of greatest demand, adjustments will be made to the traffic light timing plans and real-time traffic will be monitored through the use of drones. These actions will be coordinated between the Monitoring Center of the National Emergency System 911 Dominican Republic and the Traffic Control Center of Intrant. The plan includes the restriction of parking in the vicinity of shopping centers, with the support of the ParqueatRD tow trucks, as well as the enabling of contraflow lanes at specific times. In its statement, the Transportation Cabinet indicated that, as staggered departures in the public sector are maintained, the private sector is urged to adopt similar measures or implement telecommuting in those areas where possible. In addition, the commercial sector is encouraged to use external collection points for purchases, e-commerce, and courier services, in order to reduce pressure on shopping center parking lots. Authorities also urge citizens to plan their trips in advance, stay informed through traffic platforms such as Waze and Google Maps, as well as official social media, and follow the instructions of traffic agents deployed throughout the national territory.
