Operation Cobra uncovers millionaire fraud in the health system

Santo Domingo.-The Cobra Operation was carried out after an extensive investigation led by the Public Ministry, which included 12 simultaneous raids in different parts of the country and the participation of 25 prosecutors along with more than 200 agents of the National Police.

According to the authorities, during the investigations, solid evidence was gathered that points to the existence of large-scale bribery, fraudulent manipulation of financial statements, creation of fictitious programs with unsupported payments, and irregular hiring of health service providers. All this, in order to divert funds destined for the public health system.

The Public Ministry highlighted that Operation Cobra not only seeks criminal sanctions against those involved, but also the recovery of the resources taken to return them to the assets of the Dominican State, as part of the efforts to compensate for the damage caused and protect public health.

The investigations are being led by the specialized team in organized crime and administrative corruption, under the coordination of the prosecutors of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca).

In the coming hours, the court will hear the requested coercive measure, while the country continues to watch with anticipation the development of one of the most relevant corruption cases of the year.
