Córdoba.- The Reina Sofía University Hospital in Córdoba has reached a new milestone in its history as a national benchmark in transplants by performing, in just one week, 13 organ transplants and four local extractions. According to a statement released by the health center, this is "an unprecedented activity that reflects the extraordinary care, organizational, and human capacity of this Andalusian public center." During these seven days, they have carried out seven kidney transplants, two double-lung transplants, three heart transplants (one of them on a child), and one liver transplant. The "magnitude" of this effort is intensified by considering the high complexity of several of the interventions, some of which lasted for more than 17 hours.

Perfect Gear

The managing director of the health center, Francisco Triviño, has highlighted that this "achievement is only possible thanks to the dedication, preparation and cohesion of healthcare teams and the generosity of the people who say yes to donation." In addition to surgical activity, the role of the Transplant Coordination team and all the units involved must be valued. They have made possible the "perfect gear" between extraction, logistics, transfers and the performance of the grafts. "Each transplant is a story of hope, which combines generosity and science. I also want to emphasize that behind each intervention there are human teams working in a coordinated manner. And with an enormous vocation for public service," said the transplant coordinator, José María Dueñas.

This vocation has led the Reina Sofía Hospital to be an Andalusian reference center for certain types of transplants. It is both adult and child in lung, liver, kidney, heart or pancreas.
