Abinader urges Leones champions to compete with "patriotism" in the Caribbean Series

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican president, Luis Abinader, received this Thursday players from the Leones del Escogido, champions of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League, whom he urged to compete with "patriotism" as representatives of the country in the Caribbean Series to be held from February 1 to 7 in Jalisco, Mexico.

The ruler handed the national flag to directors and players of the red team, who revalidated the league title, number 18 for the team based in Santo Domingo.

The Head of State highlighted the "pride" generated by the conquest of the national bicampeonato and urged the Dominican team to compete with discipline, dedication and patriotic commitment on Mexican soil. He highlighted the quality of the team and its reinforcements, and expressed his confidence that they will maintain the level of play that led them to the Lidom title, with the aim of once again conquering the Caribbean Series for the Dominican Republic. The ruler valued the team's talent and especially encouraged relief pitcher Jeffry Yan, known as 'La Sentencia', to impose his dominance from the mound in Mexico. From his side, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, valued President Abinader's support for baseball as an expression of national pride and recognized the joint work of the institutions that strengthen the professional tournament and congratulated the directors, technical staff and players of the Leones del Escogido. The president of the Leones del Escogido, Eduardo Najri, highlighted that the current government period has coincided with a successful stage for the franchise. Among the players who participated in the event were outfielders Junior Lake and Sócrates Brito, Venezuelan third baseman Alcides Escobar, chosen Most Valuable Player of the final series, as well as pitcher Henry Sosa. The Leones conquered the crown of Dominican professional baseball after defeating the Toros del Este in five games.
