Promipyme's credit portfolio has expanded by 30.6% in the last two years

PROMIPYME reported that it closed the 2024–2025 period with an expansion of its credit portfolio of 30.6%, reaching a historical balance of RD$11,248 million, in a context marked by restrictive monetary policies and the rising cost of private financing.

According to an institutional report presented this week, the entity channeled RD$14.874 million in direct financing to micro and small businesses during the last two years, positioning itself as the fourth largest microcredit institution in the country and reinforcing its role as the main financial arm of the State for productive development.

The performance occurred in an environment where commercial banks raised their interest rates and tightened credit conditions, which made public financing a key factor in sustaining the economic activity of MSMEs. According to the document, more than two-thirds of the portfolio growth was achieved organically, through the rotation of own funds, before receiving an extraordinary capitalization from the Executive Branch.

PROMIPYME reported that its growth was not solely based on volume, but on a sustained improvement in the quality of assets. The portfolio at risk for more than 30 days decreased from 16.3% at the end of 2023 to levels close to 10% at the end of 2025, despite a significant increase in the total balance.

The report attributes these results to a comprehensive re-engineering of financial, risk, and internal process management, including the use of advanced analytics and machine learning models for credit assessment, the requirement of notarized promissory notes for large exposures, and increased use of real guarantees.

One of the central axes of the strategy was the prioritization of credit to women entrepreneurs, who today represent 64% of the customer base and more than half of the disbursements. The document indicates that this segment presents significantly lower delinquency, which contributes to stabilizing the institutional balance.

From a territorial perspective, PROMIPYME highlighted a deliberate redistribution of credit towards provinces and regions with low banking coverage. Areas such as Pedernales, El Seibo, and Monte Plata concentrate a participation in the portfolio superior to their weight in the national financial system, in what the institution defines as a market failure correction strategy.

The report also highlights improvements in administrative efficiency and internal control. Budget execution increased from 72.9% in 2023 to 92.5% in 2025, while transparency and public sector control indicators reflected significant progress, including compliance exceeding 90% in the Basic Internal Control Standards.

In macroeconomic terms, PROMIPYME maintains that public microcredit has a direct and measurable impact on economic activity. Econometric studies cited in the document indicate that a 1% increase in microcredit growth translates into a cumulative increase of 0.24% in the Monthly Index of Economic Activity over a quarterly horizon.

This evidence supported an extraordinary injection of RD$1,500 million following recent climate events, allowing for a rapid channeling of liquidity to affected businesses, a deployment that the institution considers difficult to replicate by traditional banks in that segment.

With these results, PROMIPYME is emerging as a central instrument of public policy for economic reactivation from the business base, with a demonstrated capacity to absorb capital, manage it with prudential criteria and transmit it rapidly to the real economy.
