Rio de Janeiro.- With semi-naked bodies exposed to the lash of a sun that gave no respite, Rio de Janeiro burned this Sunday amidst music, color, and much imagination in the street parades that took over the city in full carnival.
Cowboys are pink hats, bare breasts, and even the rumberos who 'didn't manage' to dress up and arrived at the party fresh out of the bath wrapped in towels, danced to Brazilian rhythms like axe, funk and samba that the street troupe Divinas Tretas performed along with rock and pop classics.
Creativity and imagination were the protagonists of this outdoor party in Aterro do Flamengo park, amidst trees that helped the partygoers take breaths under their shade and with the sea next to the foot of Pão de Açúcar hill.
Although most of the costumes were a mix of swimsuits with fishnet stockings, lots of glitter and shiny accessories, elaborate costumes were seen, such as those of the group that staged the Simpsons family or the doctor who, due to his body and stature, very aptly chose to be a gladiator.

But the most creative ones stole the show, such as the Adams tempted by the serpent or the clowns inspired by the French pierrot but also by medieval women and the magic of the universe. The idea came from João and Daniel, a gay couple who let their imagination run wild in a project that took three months to complete.Each suit was gold with black with figures of stars and in the form of a men's swimsuit from the 40s. It was accompanied by a conical hat from which a black tulle emerged, in the style of medieval princesses, and tulle gloves, also black, covered their hands.
"The idea was also that it would have a lot of magic, a lot of cosmos. It was a mix of carnival references," explained João to EFE, who highlighted that Daniel, who is a veterinarian by profession, has many more design skills than he does, who is a publicist. Divinas Tretas is a static street troupe, composed mostly of lesbian women, that defends and promotes the rights of the LGTBI population through music, as they consider it a vehicle for love and inclusion with the power to unite people, break down barriers and open minds. The bloco, as the street bands are known in Brazil, is one of the more than 460 that are in every corner of the city, igniting the party at this time of year. Street bands make up a 37-day program for the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, internationally known for the exuberant parades of samba schools in the sambódromo, considered the largest outdoor spectacle in the world.
