Christian Yelich to the injured list; Brewers call up Greg Jones

Milwaukee suffers another key loss in its offense while dealing with multiple injuries

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers face a new blow to their lineup after placing Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list for a left groin strain, after he left Sunday's game against the Nationals early.

To cover his absence, the club promoted the versatile Greg Jones to the 40-man roster, while left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Leader Pat Murphy explained that initial tests detected fluid accumulation in the affected area, although he emphasized that the player showed intent to continue in the match. "He wanted to stay in the game, but we have to be careful. It's only April and we're already facing several injuries," Murphy pointed out. Yelich has been one of the team's most consistent hitters at the start of this season, with a solid offensive line of .314/.375/.455. The situation generates even more concern in Milwaukee, which no longer has key players like Jackson Chourio, recovering from a fracture in his left hand, nor Andrew Vaughn, who is recovering from surgery in the same area. Despite the complicated situation, the club is relieved that Yelich's injury is not related to his back, an area that has caused him problems in the past. "It's part of the season," Murphy said. "This is the moment when the team's character is shown," Murphy concluded.
