DENVER — Shohei Ohtani continues to make his mark on history. The Japanese phenomenon extended his streak of reaching base to 51 consecutive games on Sunday, by hitting a run-scoring double to right field in the third inning against Colorado starter Michael Lorenzen.

With this performance, Ohtani solely took possession of third place in the historical list of the Los Angeles Dodgers since 1900, surpassing the mark of "Wee" Willie Keeler, with whom he had started the day tied. The Japanese player's impressive streak dates back to August 24, 2025, and now puts him only two games away from second place, held by Shawn Green, who reached 53 consecutive games reaching base in the year 2000. The franchise record belongs to Duke Snider, with 58 games in 1954, while Ron Cey completes the Top 5 with a streak of 47 between 1975 and 1976.
At the Major League level, Ohtani's streak also stands out in recent times: it is the fourth longest in the last 20 years. He is just one game away from Kevin Millar and Shin-Soo Choo, who reached 52 consecutive games getting on base in 2007 and 2018, respectively. Since 2005, the longest streak belongs to Colombian Orlando Cabrera, with 63 games in 2006. The absolute record in MLB since at least 1900 remains in the hands of the legendary Ted Williams, who reached 84 games on base in 1949. In the game, Ohtani went 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. However, the Dodgers couldn't avoid the 9-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies, thus adding their second consecutive defeat for the first time this season.
