PN Director participates in the destruction of 14,699 seized weapons

Santo Domingo.- The Director General of the National Police, Major General Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz, participated in the destruction of 14,699 weapons seized by the State, an initiative led by the Ministry of Interior and Police (MIP) in coordination with the company Metaldom, as part of the actions to reduce illegal circulation and strengthen citizen security. The activity was led by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, and was also attended by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, ERD; representatives of the Attorney General's Office, and the Vice President of Institutional Relations and Communication of INICIA, Anyarlene Bergés, under the supervision of the Inter-institutional Commission for the Destruction of Weapons. During the day, 2,268 firearms were disintegrated, including revolvers, pistols, shotguns, rifles, and homemade artifacts, as well as 12,431 bladed weapons, including knives, machetes, and daggers. This action is part of a sustained strategy to remove illegal weapons from circulation and prevent them from returning to the streets, this being the second day held in the last four months. The authorities highlighted that the destruction of these weapons directly contributes to the reduction of violence and reinforces the State's commitment to security and peaceful coexistence.

The intervention took place at the Metaldom facilities, located in the Duarte Industrial Park, where the weaponry was previously verified by specialized technicians to ensure compliance with safety protocols before its destruction. For his part, Metaldom's country director, Fernando de La Vega, highlighted the company's commitment to social and environmental impact initiatives, noting that the company processed more than 90,000 metric tons of ferrous waste during the last year. The destruction of the weaponry was carried out at no cost to the State, through a compression process that turns the weapons into scrap, in compliance with the agreement signed between the entities in 2020. This initiative responds to Resolution MIP-RR-0008-2021, which establishes the regulation and destruction of seized or voluntarily surrendered weapons, with the aim of strengthening citizen security and promoting a culture of peace,
