Abinader inaugurates multiple works requested for years in Las Matas de Farfán

San Juan. President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Saturday a wastewater treatment plant and sanitation improvements in the municipality, as well as the new Municipal Market, works that are a priority for the social well-being of the community. The president, accompanied by the executive director of the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewers (INAPA), Wellington Arnaud, inaugurated the treatment plant, along with the reconstruction of the impulse line of the Juan de Herrera aqueduct, the enabling of the El Córbano aqueduct and the expansion of the Múltiple Yabonico aqueduct. The expansion of the Las Matas de Farfán aqueduct included the construction of a well field, a new storage tank with a capacity of 400 cubic meters, the installation of 1,653 connections, as well as conduction lines and distribution networks, which will significantly improve the supply of drinking water in the area.

Meanwhile, the improvement of the sanitary sewer system included the rehabilitation of the treatment plant, the construction of two facultative lagoons and a finishing lagoon, as well as the installation of 8,000 meters of 8-inch pipes, guaranteeing the proper operation of the system, the protection of public health and compliance with current environmental regulations. During the opening ceremony, and in the company of the First Lady, Raquel Arbaje, Abinader specified that his government has made an unprecedented investment in drinking water and sanitary sewerage, allocating annually five times more resources than previous administrations and considering these works as a priority for public health and social welfare. “Because these works are health, health for Dominicans. And we have invested per year, five times more than previous governments in water and sanitary sewage, and there are the numbers of how many people we have given, we have brought water to their homes,” he stated. He highlighted that thousands of households across the country have benefited from access to drinking water, while announcing important projects in execution and others in projection.

He cited the upcoming inauguration of the salinity barrier aqueduct, which will provide an additional two cubic meters of water for Santo Domingo East and Santo Domingo North, **as well as a major project in planning to bring ten cubic meters of water to Greater Santo Domingo, with financing agreed with the IDB and CAF**. In addition, the start of drinking water projects and treatment plants in coastal cities such as La Caleta, Boca Chica, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey and Bávaro, one of the regions with the highest population and tourist growth. Also, he reported on investments exceeding RD$2,000 million to improve and expand the Santiago aqueduct system, as well as strategic projects in the south of the country, including Barahona, where water will arrive by gravity thanks to the Monte Grande dam, doubling the availability of the service in the area.

The New Market

The ruler opened the new Municipal Market of Las Matas de Farfán, a work awaited for 50 years, which seeks to transform the conditions of commercial exchange and guarantee higher quality products for the San Juan families. The work not only represents a modern physical space, but also a tool for human dignity for merchants and a guarantee of health for consumers.

By uttering a few brief words, First Lady Raquel Arbaje pointed out that the work was built as a team and highlighted that her family is closely linked to Las Matas de Farfán. She also valued the importance of this infrastructure for the community.

According to the president of the Presidential Commission for Provincial Development, Ángel de la Cruz, the work was built with love and dedication, and has more than 66 cubicles and 23,000 square meters of construction. "The president has launched the fundamental works and has developed those that consolidate the country," he emphasized. With the commissioning of this distribution center, the Dominican Government reaffirms its commitment to the economic reactivation of the southern provinces, facilitating that local producers have a worthy point of sale that reduces post-harvest losses and strengthens the regional supply chain.
