Santo Domingo.– The Dominican government will not be able to continue evading the reality of the construction sector, and will be forced to grant temporary permits to allow the hiring of Haitian labor, warned the president of the National Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Construction Enterprises (COPYMECON), Eliseo Cristopher.
Cristopher was emphatic in pointing out that "no matter how many turns they want to take, in the end the Government will have to take a pragmatic position and authorize the temporary entry of Haitian workers in a regulated manner. There is no other way out. The sector is being paralyzed due to lack of labor, that is if, or if." The business leader explained that many projects are stalled because qualified personnel cannot be found in the country to meet the demand required by the industry. "This is not a whim, it is a real need. Without workers who know about blocks, rods and mixtures, there is simply no construction," he said. In other news, Cristopher denounced that one of the main bottlenecks facing construction companies are the obstacles imposed by the Ministry of Environment for obtaining permits, which, according to him, is seriously affecting the dynamization of the sector. “Every day there are more requirements, more bureaucracy, more paperwork, more inspections. Environment has become a wall for development. We are not against regulation, but there must be balance and efficiency,” said Durante during his participation in the program Fuera de Récord, produced by journalist Elvis Lima for channel 14 TV.About Real Estate Scams
Regarding real estate scams, he stated that while it is true that these malpractices constitute a threat to the sector, it should be highlighted that the majority of builders are serious people committed to the development of the country. You may be interested in: Hipólito Mejía favors the regularization of Haitian labor
"But we can say the following, the construction sector, like all sectors, has people who are good, bad, and so on. But really in the Dominican Republic there is a group of builders with a lot of responsibility and there are also mechanisms to ensure that the investments made in that order are guaranteed," he specified. He urged citizens both here and abroad, when considering a property, to seek advice and not be swayed by what they see. The doors of COPYMECON are open so that they can obtain all the necessary information and thus avoid being scammed by opportunists and unscrupulous individuals.
