Santo Domingo.– The General Directorate of Medicines, Food and Sanitary Products (DIGEMAPS) reported this Thursday the temporary suspension of the Sanitary Registry of the toothpaste Colgate Total Clean Mint/Colgate Total, manufactured in Brazil and distributed in the Dominican Republic under the registration number PC2024-1539, due to potential risks to public health.
The measure includes the immediate withdrawal of the product throughout the national territory, as part of a preventive action following an alert issued by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) of Brazil, identified as GGMON No. 03/2025.You may be interested in: Government guarantees prices of bread, flours and pasta for 45 days
The health alert was generated after reports of adverse reactions related to the use of toothpastes containing Stannous Fluoride and a new flavoring incorporated into the formula. According to in vitro studies provided by the same manufacturing company, the additional ingredient could affect the integrity of the cell membranes of the oral cavity, causing direct irritations. DIGEMAPS confirmed that in recent weeks it has received local adverse event notifications related to the product, which reinforced the decision to activate the cosmetovigilance protocol and proceed with the preventive suspension of the registration. Last week, the director of DIGEMAPS, Leandro Villanueva, and the head of the National Institute for Consumer Protection (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, held a meeting with representatives of the distribution company Colgate-Palmolive, where a follow-up plan was agreed upon that led to this action. The authorities urged citizens to immediately discontinue use of the affected product and go to official health channels if they experience any adverse reaction.
