Santo Domingo.- Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (
DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry, within the framework of their firm mission and new strategies, to combat the micro-trafficking of narcotic substances, seized hundreds of grams of alleged narcotics, amid simultaneous operations deployed in the city of Santiago and the municipality of Sosúa, province of Puerto Plata.
In a first intervention, the agents and prosecutors executed three raids and multiple interventions in the sectors of Buenos Aires, Hoyo de Pekín and Ensanche Libertad in Santiago, where they seized 1,629 grams of a white powder presumably cocaine, 792 of marijuana, 78 gummies of the same plant, with an approximate weight of 181 grams, as well as 467 wrappers of a rocky material presumably crack, equivalent to 188 grams.
During the operation, 10 people were arrested, and in addition, 03 scales, a communication radio, RD$17,752.00 Dominican pesos, 102 bolivars, 05 cell phones, 10 9mm cartridges, 02 electronic cigarettes, documents, and other evidence were seized.
"Leonardo Mercedes Veras Lopez, is one of those arrested in this operation, is identified as one of the main distributors of narcotic substances in that city and also appears with an arrest warrant for homicide."
The detainees will be brought to justice in the coming hours for violation of law 50-88 on drugs and controlled substances, while the evidence seized in the interventions was handed over to the Public Ministry of Santiago to be used for the corresponding purposes.
Simultaneous intervention against micro-trafficking in Sosúa
In a second simultaneous operation, carried out in the municipality of Sosúa, Puerto Plata province, DNCD agents, coordinated by the Public Ministry, arrested five men and seized dozens of grams of alleged cocaine, marijuana, and molly.
The operations, framed within the joint strategy to bring more tranquility and security to those demarcations, seized 228 grams of presumed cocaine, 22 of marijuana, two portions of molly, a pistol, with two capsules and its charger.
In addition, a jeep, Honda CRV, three cell phones, a shredder, cash, and other evidence used for the packaging and sale of controlled substances were seized.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD have intensified operations against micro-trafficking, managing to seize during 2025, more than seven million grams of cocaine, heroin, marijuana, crack, ecstasy, tusi, methamphetamines and other substances.
