Lima.- The Peruvian ex-president Pedro Castillo (2021-2022), who is serving a sentence of 11 years and 5 months in prison for rebellion after unsuccessfully attempting a coup d'état at the end of 2022, requested this Thursday a pardon from the new interim president of the country, José Balcázar, congressman of the Marxist party Perú Libre, with which Castillo won the 2021 presidential elections.
The presidential pardon request, sent to the presidential office, bears the signature of "Castillo" and was processed by his former Minister of Defense and lawyer, Walter Ayala, according to the document released by several national media outlets in Peru, who had access to the written document. In his request, and despite not having a final sentence yet to request this presidential pardon, Castillo claims the pardon "under the principle of humanity" and to honor "the word given" by Balcázar, who before being chosen to lead the transitional Government of Peru had hinted at the possibility of granting the pardon to the former president. You may be interested in: http://Presidente de Perú reaffirms his stance that sex at an early age helps women
