Tehran.- Iran's representative to the
United Nations, Saeed Iravani, put the number of deaths in the Israeli attacks against his country at 78 and the number of injured at 320, in the first official count of victims.
Iravani reported these figures in a speech to an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in New York, the state-run IRNA news agency indicated on Saturday.
So far, the Fars agency had reported about 70 people dead and more than 300 injured, data that had not been officially confirmed by the authorities.
The authorities had confirmed the deaths of senior military officials such as the commander-in-chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, General Hossein Salami, and the head of the Aerospace Force of that body, General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, among other officials.
Israel began a series of attacks on military and nuclear facilities in the Persian country early Friday morning, which have been repeated throughout that day.
Iran responded last night with at least three missile attacks against Tel Aviv that have caused three deaths and some 38 injuries, according to the press of the Jewish State.
Throughout the night, Tehran suffered new Israeli attacks with reports of impacts against the local Mehrabad airport, which according to Iranian media did not cause major damage.
Among the Israeli targets is the main Iranian uranium enrichment plant, Natanz, which suffered damage, as well as Fordo, as well as air and military bases.
