"In that range of complexity, he is stable and the interventions carried out in recent hours maintain his condition," adds the medical report, the third one issued about the politician. Uribe Turbay, 39, was shot on Saturday afternoon while participating in a rally in the Bogotá neighborhood of Modelia, and underwent surgery the same day at the Santa Fe clinic for injuries sustained to his head and leg."We continue to take the necessary actions to mitigate the impact of the injuries he received," indicates the medical report, which adds that "their severity and prognosis remain as previously reported."
In front of the clinic, dozens of supporters of the politician and his party, the Democratic Center, in the opposition, remain, as well as journalists awaiting news about his condition. The vigil is permanent in Santa Fe where the senator's wife, María Claudia Tarazona, and other family members have participated in prayer chains and received visits from a large part of the country's political class.
Uribe Turbay is the grandson of former liberal president Julio César Turbay, who governed Colombia between 1978 and 1982, while his mother, journalist Diana Turbay Quintero, was kidnapped and murdered in 1991 by drug traffickers in the service of drug lord Pablo Escobar. The assassination attempt has been condemned by Colombian society and international organizations amid calls on the government to guarantee the safety of candidates ahead of next year's legislative and presidential elections.
