SANTO DOMINGO.- Right-hander Grant Gavin (1-0) pitched five quality innings to lead the Leones del Escogido to a 2-0 victory over the Estrellas Orientales early this Tuesday morning at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.

The North American struck out five men, without giving up walks, allowing four hits to get the victory. The shutout was completed by Rolddy Muñoz (1.0), Henry Sosa (1.0), Iván Armstrong (1.0) and Jimmy Cordero (1.0), the latter achieving his first save of the season. The Escarlatas' rally came in the fourth inning against Nate Antone, who walked Yamaico Navarro, who then advanced to third on a single by Junior Lake to center field, both scoring on a single by Jonathan Araúz to right field. That pair of lines cost Antone the loss (0-1), who completed 3.1 innings with two hits, two earned runs, two strikeouts, and three walks. For the Reds, Araúz hit 1-for-3, with two RBIs; Lake, 1-for-2, with a run scored and a walk, and Navarro, 1-for-2, with a run scored and a walk. For the pachyderms, Euribiel Ángeles went 1-for-3, with a double, and Rodolfo Durán, 1-for-3, with a double. The meeting, originally scheduled for 7:15 p.m. and rescheduled from last Thursday, began with a three-hour delay. After the victory, the Escogido places its mark at 1-4 and the Estrellas at 4-1. The Lions will travel this Tuesday for the first time this season to San Francisco de Macorís to visit the Gigantes del Cibao at the Julián Javier stadium.
