Podgorica, Montenegro. – Former NBA center Vlade Divac, 57, and a Hall of Famer, is hospitalized in Montenegro after suffering a motorcycle accident on Thursday, June 19, on the Luštica peninsula, near the coast and a few kilometers from Dubrovnik.

According to the Serbian newspaper Informer and international agencies, Divac lost control of his motorcycle during a ride and fell violently, resulting in a hip fracture. He was urgently transferred to a clinic in Montenegro, where doctors determined that the injury required immediate surgical intervention.Vlade Divac stood out during his career for his offensive versatility and was one of the first European stars to make a mark in the NBA. After his time with KK Partizan Belgrade, he arrived in the United States league in 1989 with the Lakers, a team with which he played 1,062 games and reached the NBA final in 1991. He also wore the jerseys of the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings before retiring in 2005. Internationally, Divac competed in 117 matches with the national teams of Yugoslavia and later Serbia and Montenegro, achieving two Olympic silver medals (Seoul 1988 and Atlanta 1996), three European championships (1989, 1991, 1995) and two world championships (1990, 2002). In 2019, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, and between 2009 and 2017, he chaired the Serbian National Olympic Committee. Currently, Divac was on a personal visit to Montenegro when the incident occurred. His family and former clubs have already displayed messages of support and it is expected that Divac will remain hospitalized for at least a week to begin the rehabilitation process. An artificial hip prosthesis was implanted to ensure his recovery," reported the medical team that treated him.
