Santo Domingo. – The head of the Forecast Center of the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), engineer Saddam Font Frías, reported this Sunday that Hurricane Erin does not pose a direct threat to the Dominican Republic, as its trajectory takes it away towards the west-northwest of the Caribbean.
However, he warned that the extensive cloud field associated with the phenomenon will continue to affect the national territory with abnormal waves on the Atlantic coast and scattered showers in different locations. "Although the center of the hurricane moved away, its cloud radius covers a large part of the country, so weather alerts are maintained from Montecristi to La Altagracia," explained the official.

Font Frías indicated that rainfall of up to 50 millimeters has been reported in areas such as Las Terrenas, Samaná, and that these rains are expected to continue in the coming hours as the cloud fields continue to penetrate the territory. He also urged the population to refrain from using the beaches on the north coast and boat operators to remain in port, due to the cyclonic swell conditions and the high risk posed by the waves in this area. The INDOMET reiterated that citizens should remain attentive to official reports, as the system will continue to generate rain and wind gusts in different provinces of the country over the next few days.
