Montecristi. – Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) seized a truck loaded with one hundred thousand 100,000 cigarettes that were illegally introduced into the country, during an operation carried out in the coastal area of Montecristi province.
The operation was carried out by soldiers of the ERD assigned to the Botoncillo Detachment, who during a patrol on the Cayar road, near Buen Hombre beach, Villa Vásquez municipality, located a Ford pickup truck, model F-150, white, with provisional license plate PP489935, abandoned at the scene.
Upon inspection of the vehicle, 100,000 units of Capital brand cigarettes were found inside, merchandise of foreign origin and not regulated by the General Customs Directorate (DGA).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck is owned by Wandy Bladimir Reyes Peñaló, who, according to records, was arrested on August 28, 2023, by agents of the National Police in the municipality of Licey al Medio, Santiago province, linked to the transportation of 235,400 units of Capital brand cigarettes, a case for which he would have been subjected to the action of justice.
Both the seized merchandise and the vehicle remain in custody at the aforementioned detachment for the corresponding legal purposes, in coordination with the competent authorities.
The Dominican Republic Army reaffirms its commitment to the fight against smuggling and illicit activities in the country's border area.
