Santo Domingo. – Santiago's deputy for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Soraya Suárez, urged authorities this Monday to take firm measures against the wave of contract killings that has hit that city in recent months.
The legislator acknowledged that common crime in Santiago has decreased significantly, but warned that the recent violent events are due to the actions of groups dedicated exclusively to executing people for settling scores.
"What is happening is not delinquency, what is happening in Santiago and in many other places is contract killing. Santiago is a quiet and safe city, now that group that moves from city to city, that seems to have decided to move to Santiago, is settling their scores among themselves," Suárez expressed.
In the midst of this situation, it is recalled that two brothers were shot dead on Tuesday night in the community of San José Afuera, in the municipality of Baitoa, Santiago province. The victims were identified as Freddy Minier Sandoval, 39 years old, and Robert Alexander Minier Sandoval, 38.
