DR deported more than 291,000 undocumented Haitians between October and July

The Observatory, created by President Luis Abinader, has invested more than 702 million pesos, in the detention and deportation of undocumented immigrants. Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Observatory of Migration Policies reported that it repatriated 291,007 Haitians between October 2024 and July of this year, in addition to deploying more than 11,000 troops on the border with that country. In terms of security, the Observatory verified the expansion of the surveillance capacity of the three current border brigades, which operate in six areas under the command of senior officers, and visits have been made to Dajabón, to present the beginning of the second phase of the construction of the border wall ordered by Abinader in 2020 and which is expected to extend over 168 of the almost 400 kilometers of border.

The Executive Commission chaired by Miguel Franjul, director of Listín Diario, presented this report and also reports the tour to the two most important maternity hospitals in Santo Domingo, to verify the application in the public health network of the protocol of care for foreign people, which the Government ordered to detain and deport undocumented Haitians who go to those centers, after receiving care before delivery or another procedure related to pregnancy. The Dominican Executive implemented this deportation plan in October 2024, with which it sought to repatriate 10,000 Haitians per week to control irregular migration.
