Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Interior and Police (MIP) reported this Wednesday that the Preventive Cell Phone Review Center, installed in mid-December 2025 on the second level of Plaza Central, is yielding positive results in reducing the theft of mobile devices.
The initiative is carried out jointly with the Attorney General's Office, the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), and the National Police, as part of an inter-institutional strategy aimed at strengthening citizen security and preventing technological crimes.
The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, highlighted that the project will be progressively expanded to other parts of the country, with the aim of facilitating access to device verification. In that sense, she recalled that citizens can also carry out this process by sending the cell phone's IMEI to the number 809-251-3521, through which they will receive their certification free of charge.

"We are listening to the citizenry. Virtual attention was contemplated within the staggered plans of the cell phone verification and certification process, and in response to this need we have enabled this contact channel to avoid economic losses when acquiring a device," explained Minister Raful. The official indicated that the process allows consulting the device's history using the IMEI code, validating it in national and international databases, including those of the National Police, Indotel, and the GSMA Device Check system.
