Santo Domingo. - The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), reported that a tropical wave will cause an increase in rainfall and increased to 8 the provinces with a meteorological alert, which are: Samaná, Monte Plata, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor,
La Romana, El Seibo, San Pedro de Macorís and El Gran Santo Domingo. Indomet detailed that, since the early hours of this Wednesday, mainly in different provinces of the northeast region of the country, precipitations of different intensities have originated, due to the incidence of a trough at different levels of the troposphere. It is expected that for this afternoon, and especially during the course of the night, an active tropical wave in combination with the trough will increase cloudiness, generating moderate to heavy showers at times, thunderstorms and wind gusts over different provinces of the northeast regions, the Caribbean coast, the Central Mountain Range and the border area, of which we can highlight; La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, El Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Azua, San Juan, Independencia, among others of the Atlantic coast and the border area. For tomorrow, Thursday, the active tropical wave will provide a lot of humidity and the trough much more instability. Consequently, moderate to heavy showers will occur at times, thunderstorms and wind gusts over several provinces located on the Caribbean coast, (including Gran Santo Domingo and El Distrito Nacional), as well as other localized areas of the northeast region, the Central Mountain Range and the border area. Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico: Hurricane Gabrielle was located about 2,190 kilometers west of the Azores. It is moving east/northeast at about 41 km/h with maximum sustained winds of about 185 km/h and stronger wind gusts around it. We are reporting a tropical wave located over the Central and Western Tropical Atlantic. It has a low probability of cyclonic development in 48 hours of 80% and 90% in the next 7 days. Better organization and strengthening of this meteorological system is expected in the coming days. We are also monitoring a tropical wave located in the extreme northeast of the Caribbean Sea with a 30% chance of cyclonic development over the next 2 days, while at 7 days, 70%.
