The North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, oversaw the manufacture of a new multiple rocket launcher system which, according to his words, has the capacity to "annihilate the enemy" with surprise attacks and great precision.

During a visit to a military plant, the North Korean leader highlighted to senior defense officials that this weaponry will become the main offensive resource of its armed forces.

The inspection of the arsenal coincided with the confirmation of a recent long-range cruise missile test. The communist regime reported that the test was successful and that the projectiles, launched over the Yellow Sea, demonstrated the "combat readiness" of its strategic missile units.

Kim expressed his "great satisfaction" with the development of these exercises and emphasized the importance of strengthening the country's offensive capacity to respond to what he described as external threats.

"The new rocket launcher system is a superweapon: it can annihilate the enemy with a sudden, precise, and devastating blow," Kim affirmed during the visit, accompanied by officials from the North Korean missile program.

The regime assured that the system is designed to be deployed on a large scale and will execute concentrated attacks in military operations, multiplying North Korea's destructive power in case of conflict. The North Korean state propaganda disseminated images of Kim touring the factory, showing the imposing launchers surrounded by slogans exalting national military power. The rhetoric of the North Korean leader adds to a series of announcements about new developments in defense, including the construction of a nuclear-powered submarine and recent tests of anti-aircraft missiles capable of intercepting targets at high altitudes.

The peninsula has technically been at war since the armistice was signed in 1953, and North Korean artillery has been considered by analysts as one of the biggest challenges to South Korea's security. A report by the RAND center estimated that, in the event of open conflict, North Korean artillery systems could cause thousands of casualties in densely populated areas such as Seoul in just an hour. North Korean military activity has increased in the months leading up to the Workers' Party Congress, scheduled for February. Kim has intensified inspections of ammunition facilities and has demanded that the military industry increase production and adopt new technologies. The dictator hinted that during the next congress, new investments in armament plants and the expansion of the strategic arsenal will be decided.

The international context has become more tense in the face of the possibility that North Korea seeks to export its missile systems to countries such as Russia or strengthen its military cooperation with other states outside the major blocs. North Korea maintains that its tests and arms advances are aimed at deterring foreign intervention and protecting the country from possible attacks by South Korea and the United States The United States and South Korea have warned that the modernization of North Korea's arsenal constitutes a clear threat to regional stability and have responded with joint military exercises and the strengthening of their defenses. Kim Jong-un's regime, subject to international sanctions, seeks to present itself as a military power capable of responding to any challenge and maintaining its internal and regional influence.
