Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry carried out, through its Intellectual Property Unit and the Intellectual Property Department of the National District Prosecutor's Office, as well as with the support of the Counterfeiting Department of the National Police, three raids on commercial establishments on Duarte Avenue in which it seized some 5,000 counterfeit school items.
The operatives, led by prosecutors Marineldy Peña, Miguelina de Palma and Rafael Reyes, confirmed that the items seized from businesses of Asian merchants presented counterfeit distinctive signs, in violation of Law No. 20-00 on Industrial Property.

In another raid, carried out in the Colonial Zone of the National District, prosecutors seized dozens of falsified school texts in a printing press, as well as the machines, printing plates and other equipment used to reproduce them illegally. These facts constitute a violation of Law no. 65-00 on Copyright, to the detriment of Dominican authors. Also, in an operation carried out in San Isidro, Santo Domingo province, prosecutor Lauridelissa Jiménez, attached to the Intellectual Property Unit, seized more than 65,000 counterfeit school products, including backpacks, lunch boxes and pencil cases, which raises to more than 70,000 the supplies seized in these operations. This constitutes one of the most significant cases against brand counterfeiting in the country.
