Santo Domingo. - Mayor Dío Astacio announced that the City Council of Santo Domingo Este (SDE) is making the largest investment in participatory budgeting in the entire Dominican Republic, with the execution of around 300 community works and a budget that exceeds 300 million pesos.
The municipal executive explained that this investment marks a before and after in the history of the municipality, since for the first time 100% of the resources from the participatory budget are allocated to community works of social impact, directly benefiting the different neighborhoods and sectors of the demarcation. Astacio detailed that each of the works will be executed with an average of three million pesos, which will allow for the development of higher quality projects and respond to the main needs raised by the communities, such as sidewalks, curbs, drainage, public spaces, and improvements in basic infrastructure.You can also read: SeNaSa certifies that Centro Odontológico Dr. Senior has no relationship with the institution
The mayor highlighted that with this level of investment, Santo Domingo Este is at the forefront among the 158 municipalities in the country, and assured that the set of works scheduled for the year 2026 will have a direct positive impact on the lives of the residents. In addition, the mayor recalled that the participatory budget of the municipality is experiencing significant growth in recent years, since in 2023 the investment was barely 34 million pesos, a figure that increased to 150 million pesos in the 2025 budget. The municipal executive specified that by the year 2026 the participatory budget will reach 300 million pesos, which represents a historic milestone in municipal development and a clear commitment of the current administration to citizen participation and community development. Astacio also reported that the budget for last year is being executed efficiently, with a 70% progress, and that its total execution is scheduled to conclude in March of next year.The mayor of the head municipality of the Santo Domingo province assured that 70% of the works in execution have already been completed, stating that the municipal administration is working to ensure that resources reach the communities and translate into real solutions to improve the quality of life of the residents of the Santo Domingo Este municipality.
