The Dominican economy records a 2.9% year-on-year expansion in July

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican economy registered a year-on-year expansion of 2.9% in July, higher than the 1.1% in June, mainly supported by a better relative performance of the mining, free zones, construction and services sectors, the Central Bank reported this Wednesday. Within the services sector, financial activities, hotels, bars and restaurants, energy and water, and transportation and storage stand out.
In this way, the accumulated growth of the Dominican economy in the January-July 2025 period stands at 2.4%, the regulatory body assured in a statement.
The organization highlighted "recent stimulus measures" approved by the Monetary Board, through a liquidity program of 81 billion pesos (about 1.3 billion dollars), which has facilitated commercial banks for loans aimed at the productive and service sectors.

The Monthly Indicator of Economic Activity (IMAE) managed by the Central Bank, recorded a variation of 21.0% in the mining sector in July, associated with the increase in the volumes of gold and silver extracted, placing the accumulated growth of this activity at 5.1% between January and July. Within the industrial sector, the performance of free zone manufacturing stands out, which registered a year-on-year increase of 7.1% last July, with the external demand for goods produced under this regime influencing this behavior. In this sense, exports increased by 5.0% in the aforementioned month, for a total of $805.8 million, accumulating $5,057.8 million during the first seven months. The construction sector's activity registered a year-on-year variation of 3.8%, improving its performance compared to the accumulated contraction of 2.3% observed in the January-June period, the issuing body affirmed.
