Tragedy in Villa Duarte: 10-year-old child dies victim of gunshots

A 10-year-old boy lost his life on the night of this Thursday in the Simónico sector of Villa Duarte, Santo Domingo Este, a few minutes after returning from practicing baseball.

The minor, identified as Josua Rodney, was rushed to the Darío Contreras Hospital after receiving several shots, but died on the way to the medical center. His mother, known as “Benilka”, and another woman identified as María Mercedes, were also injured during the attack.

According to family members, the child was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, where his body remains in the morgue. Neighbors in the area reported that one of the shots hit the minor in the head. Both his mother and the other injured person continue to receive medical attention at the same health center.

According to witnesses, the incident occurred after 7:30 p.m., when several men arrived in a black SUV on Victoria Street, a narrow stretch of the sector, and opened fire on those in the El Guillao cafeteria.

As of yet, the reasons for the attack are unknown. While some residents suspect that the target was not the people affected, others prefer not to delve into the matter and claim that it could be a confrontation related to criminal gangs.

Dicrim (Criminal Investigations Division) agents went to the scene to conduct the corresponding investigations and review surveillance cameras of a nearby business.
