UASD resumes its activities this Friday as normal after violent incident

Santo Domingo. – The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) woke up this Friday with its activities developing with total normality, after the incident that occurred yesterday that left several employees injured and forced the suspension of classes at the central headquarters. From the early hours of the morning, students, professors, and administrative staff went to the university campus, where the atmosphere is calm. Classes and administrative work were resumed according to the usual schedules. On Thursday afternoon, UASD reported the temporary suspension of classes following a violent incident in which an armed man entered the facilities and fired several shots, injuring security members.

One of the injured, identified as Lyegders Peña Encarnación, remains receiving medical attention at the Dominican Cuban Medical Center, according to sources close to the matter. The university deeply regretted the incident and requested the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the causes of the attack and punish those responsible. The National Police reported that Alexander Jiménez Galván, 35, was arrested as the main suspect in the shooting, and that, along with the Public Prosecutor's Office, assumed the investigation of the case. Despite the shock generated by the event, the university community expressed tranquility in the face of the authorities' rapid response and the resumption of activities at the country's main center of higher education.
