U.S. Secretary of State J.D. Vance reiterated this Wednesday in Jerusalem the commitment of the United States to the disarmament of the Islamist group Hamas, along with the reconstruction of Gaza, after holding a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"We have a very difficult challenge ahead of us, which is to disarm Hamas and rebuild Gaza; improve the lives of the people in Gaza but also ensure that Hamas no longer poses a threat to our friends in Israel," Vance said after the meeting, according to a statement released by Netanyahu's office.
"But it's something we are committed to in the (U.S. President Donald) Trump Administration," he added about a visit that seeks to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister, for his part, thanked Vance for the visit and said he was impressed by "his solidarity" with the common cause between Israel and the United States (without giving further details).
Netanyahu said he had worked for years with different US administrations, but none like the current one, governed by Donald Trump.
"This is an alliance that has never been before. This includes a close circle on the Israeli and American sides. Trump knows who he chooses to be part of that circle," he added.
Vance landed in Israel yesterday for a two-day visit, the first since his appointment, which was also attended by the White House special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law.
