Putin and Trump congratulated each other on Victory Day through their advisors

Moscow.- The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, congratulated each other on Victory Day over Nazi Germany in World War II through their advisors, the Kremlin reported today.

"The Russian president and President Trump exchanged congratulations on the occasion of our common holiday," Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told Russian state television.

Putin stated today in the military parade on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Red Army's Victory Day over the Nazis that his country will never forget the lessons of the world war, in which the USSR, which did not fight until Germany invaded Soviet territory in 1941, lost 26 million people, eight million of them soldiers.

Flanked by some thirty foreign leaders, the Kremlin chief also paid tribute to the role played by allied countries in the defeat of Hitler's troops.

"We will always remember that the opening of a second front in Europe after the decisive battles on the territory of the Soviet Union brought victory closer," he said.

"The complete defeat of Nazi Germany, militarist Japan and their satellites in various regions of the world was achieved thanks to joint efforts," he insisted.

During the parade, which was attended by veterans from several countries, including the US, about 130 war machines marched, including the legendary Soviet T-34 tanks and the SU-100 self-propelled artillery pieces, used during World War II.
