According to official data, there are currently only between 400 and 450 individuals of this emblematic bird left throughout the territory of Hispaniola, making it one of the most endangered species in the Caribbean. This bird of prey, in addition to being a symbol of Dominican biodiversity, plays a fundamental role in the ecological balance of the country.

“The Hispaniolan Hawk not only represents a key piece in the ecosystem's balance, but also forms an important part of the Dominican Republic's natural identity,” emphasized the Ministry, which also urged the population to inform themselves, share this reality, and join conservation efforts. “Protecting it is protecting our biodiversity,” they underlined.

The organization also reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of endangered species and encouraged Dominicans to actively engage in environmental preservation through education, reporting activities that threaten wildlife, and participating in conservation programs.
