Omar Fernández defends Dominican Republic's right to deport undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

Omar emphasizes to Republican leaders the need to apply 80-20 in the Dominican labor market.

Florida.- The senator for the National District, Omar Fernández, stated in the United States that an effort should be made to mechanize the agricultural and construction sectors to minimize the dependence on foreign labor, mostly Haitian. Furthermore, he insisted on the need to increase salaries in the aforementioned sectors to generate interest among Dominicans, during a panel within the framework of the Pan-American Freedom Forum 2025, this week.

“Siempre debemos pensar primero en los dominicanos. Debemos pensar, y el gobierno debe desempeñar un papel importante, en impulsar la mecanización del proceso agrícola, la innovación, la sofisticación y la eficiencia, para no necesitar cada vez menos mano de obra haitiana. Además, debemos cuidar el trabajo dominicano con buenos salarios”, explicó durante su participación.

Before the leaders of the Republican Party in the state of Florida, USA, Fernández explained that Dominican laws establish that no company can hire more than 20% of its workforce as foreign, and that even that is conditioned on a series of rigors to be observed and authorized by the authorities. "Anyone who has an irregular migratory status in the Dominican Republic must return to their country and we must enforce the law, that is what should prevail in the Dominican Republic," inquired the also president of the Dominican Abroad Commission of the Senate. This call aligns with the defense of labor sovereignty, immigration order, and inclusive economic development of the country, placing the well-being and opportunities for the Dominican population at the center of the national agenda.
