Eduardo Alberto Then, born on October 25, 1959, in San Francisco de Macorís, is a renowned retired officer of the National Police of the Dominican Republic. He served as general director of the National Police between 2021 and 2023, leading important processes of institutional reform in a context of social pressure to improve citizen security.
Who is Eduardo Alberto Then?
Major General Then holds a degree in Police Sciences and Law, which provided him with a solid academic foundation for his career in the institution. He began his police career as a cadet aspirant in 1983, at the National Police Academy for Cadets, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1985.
He was also the director of the Escuela para Cadetes Mayor General José Félix Rafael Hermida González, where he participated in the training of new officers with an emphasis on discipline, professionalism, and a vocation for service.

Throughout his career, Eduardo Alberto Then held strategic positions such as regional director in multiple areas of the country, accumulating a comprehensive vision of the challenges of public safety in different regions:

National Police address and reforms
In June 2021, President Luis Abinader appointed him Director General of the National Police, at a time marked by criticism of the institution and calls for a profound transformation.
During his management, Then promoted the strengthening of internal controls, the professionalization of the police force, and the implementation of new strategies to improve the treatment of citizens and reduce excesses in police procedures. His term was part of the comprehensive reform process of the National Police, driven by the Executive Branch.
Resignation and Appointment as Presidential Advisor
On November 8, 2023, Eduardo Alberto Then was placed in honorable retirement, upon ceasing his functions as general director of the National Police. In that same decree, he was appointed as advisor to the President of the Republic, in recognition of his career and experience in security and public administration.
