Marlins sweep Yankees for the first time and reach .500 record

Miami, Florida.— The Miami Marlins wrote a new page in their history by sweeping the New York Yankees for the first time, thanks to a 7-3 victory this Sunday against 34,601 fans at loanDepot park. The triumph left the team with a record of 55-55, the first time they have reached .500 since April 15th.

Dominican right-hander Edward Cabrera shined with a quality start, allowing only a leadoff home run to Trent Grisham in six innings. In offensive support, All-Star Kyle Stowers was again decisive, hitting a three-run home run and driving in a total of four runs. The series against New York not only represented a sporting milestone, but also in attendance: 101,545 fans gathered over the weekend, setting a record for a three-game series since the stadium's inauguration in 2012. According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last team to go from 16 or more games below .500 to an even record was Tampa Bay in 2014. Now, the challenge for Miami will be to try to join a select group: only the 1914 Boston Braves have reached the postseason after being 16 games below .500 at some point in the year. The Marlins, who on June 13th had a record of 16 games under .500, have since posted an impressive 30-14 record, tied with Milwaukee for the best in MLB in that span. However, their playoff chances remain limited, with only a 1.2% probability according to FanGraphs, and six games out of the last Wild Card spot in the National League.
