DGM and Public Forces detain more than 1,700 undocumented foreigners

Santo Domingo.- In a broad offensive framed by national laws and international regulations ratified by the country, the interdiction units of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), supported by public security forces, yesterday detained 1,707 foreigners caught without the required documentation. The operations, within the strategic plan of the DGM to enforce the provisions of the Government and the Defense and Security Council of the State, achieved the following results: 210 Haitian nationals in an irregular situation caught in La Vega, 186 in Santo Domingo, 120 in the East, 109 in Dajabón and 86 in San Francisco de Macorís.

Also, 84 were detained in Montecristi, 79 in Santiago, 78 in Pedernales, 69 in Jimaní, 67 in Elías Piña, 53 in Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, 52 in Azua, and 37 in Barahona. In addition, the Army reported 323 apprehended, Cesfront 84, and the National Police 70. In the works, the DGM also had the collaboration of the Ministry of Defense, the Navy, Air Force, Ciutran, and Digesett, which, constituted in a single body, defend order, citizen security, and national sovereignty. Regarding repatriations, the DGM handed over to the Haitian authorities 373 of their nationals through the binational point of Dajabón, 692 through Elías Piña, 128 through Jimaní and 176 through Pedernales, for a total of 1,369. Both the interdicted and the deported, in all processes, were given dignified and humanitarian treatment, guaranteeing them the ideal conditions established by the protocols on the matter. The DGM stated that its work will remain firm, within the framework of Law 285-04 that regulates it, in order to, in addition to preserving order in human mobility, contribute to safeguarding territorial integrity and social stability.
