PN violently represses symbolic wake against Edenorte in Moca

Moca.- A symbolic wake held this Tuesday in front of the offices of Edenorte in the municipality of Moca ended in police repression, with beatings, tear gas bombs thrown at protesters who were demanding solutions to the blackouts, as well as to the increases in the electricity tariff. According to the organizers, the police intervention generated chaos, fear, and injuries among those present, who assured that the protest was taking place peacefully. In that sense, the leader of the Los Paregronos de Moca Movement, Juan compres, rejected the police actions that he describes as arbitrary and an abuse of power.

Faced with this situation, Compres indicated that social organizations will be calling for a regional strike to strengthen their fight against power cuts that affect citizens. The activity, organized by the Los Peregrinos de Moca Popular Movement, the Frente de Lucha Amplio y Progreso, and the Cibao Coalition, sought to denounce the deficiencies of the electrical service, the constant power outages, and the increase in prices that affect both households and productive sectors of the region. According to the organizers, the police intervention generated chaos, fear, and injuries among those present, who assured that the protest was taking place peacefully. Despite the repression, community groups warned that they will maintain the mobilizations until Edenorte and the authorities of the electricity sector offer concrete answers to the crisis.

"This wake was not only an act of denunciation, but a call to alert the people of Cibao and the entire country to stand up in defense of their right to a decent, efficient, and fairly priced electricity service," stated the representatives of the convening organizations.
