During the day, about 300 agents entered several apartment buildings accompanied by armed tactical teams. Witnesses indicated that some arrests included women and young people, led with their hands tied to official vehicles. The raids extended for several blocks from 5 in the morning and ended after midday. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicated that the arrests focused on immigrants with criminal records or deportation orders, without releasing specific details. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized the operation and denounced the lack of coordination with the State. He pointed out that the federal government requested the deployment of 100 troops in Chicago, which he called a disproportionate measure. The raids sparked protests from civil organizations and local leaders, who accuse the administration of President Donald Trump of using intimidating tactics against immigrant communities in the city.
