Santo Domingo.- The United States has repatriated 3,581 Dominicans so far this year, including 2,452 for immigration matters, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported this Sunday. The 90.23% of the repatriated are men and the remaining 9.77% women, according to a report from the DGM, which specified that nine Dominicans, that is, 0.25%, decided to voluntarily return to Dominican territory.

Although they vary each month, the figures have been increasing since the U.S. president, Donald Trump, citing security and economic reasons, "decided to tighten his policy of deporting immigrants, especially due to legal status, criminal records, or who, in the opinion of the authorities, represent a potential risk to that country," Migration specified in a statement. The month in which the most deportees were received from the United States was July, with 531, the information added. Besides illegal migration, repatriations have been due to drug charges (553 people), assaults (126), violence (101), illegal possession of weapons (67), sexual offense and crime (42), homicides (35), fraud (22), and false documents (17). Other crimes are also listed, such as money laundering, human trafficking, smuggling, among others, the immigration institution specified. According to official data, there are 1.2 million Dominicans residing in the United States.
