Motorcyclists protest at the Palace of Justice in support of Major Cuevas, one of the police officers accused in the La Barranquita massacre

Santiago. – Dozens of motorcyclists from different urban routes of this city appeared this Tuesday at the Federico Álvarez Palace of Justice, where they protested demanding the freedom of police officer Hansel Michel Cuevas Carrasco, one of the eleven members of the National Police accused of participating in the death of five men during an alleged confrontation that occurred in the La Barranquita sector, in a shopping plaza in this city. Protesters, carrying banners and chanting slogans, demanded the freedom of Cuevas Carrasco, alleging that the agent has played an important role in the fight against crime in various sectors of Santiago. "Hansel is an exemplary police officer who has worked for the safety of all; he does not deserve to be imprisoned," expressed some of the motorcyclists present in front of the courthouse.

Meanwhile, inside the Courthouse, Judge Yarixa Cabral, from the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention of the judicial district of Santiago, is scheduled to hear for the third time the coercion measure hearing against the eleven police officers accused of the so-called La Barranquita massacre. The hearing had been postponed on two previous occasions due to requests from the defense and the complexity of the case, which has generated widespread public attention due to the number of victims and the involvement of law enforcement officers. Family members and associates of the accused are also outside the courthouse, awaiting the judicial decision that will define the measures to be imposed on the defendants.
