The President of the United States, Donald Trump, questioned this Monday the electoral process of Honduras and warned that the country's authorities are trying to "change the results of their presidential election," in a message broadcast on his Truth Social network. The president stated that, in case that alteration occurs, "a scandal will be created."
Trump maintained that the vote of the Honduran people must be respected. In his publication, he stated that citizens went to the polls "in overwhelming numbers on November 30" and demanded that the country's institutions ensure that the democratic process remains intact. He also noted that his statement responds to the concern generated by the handling of the results by the electoral authorities. Trump insisted that the count must be completed without further delays. "It is essential that the Commission finish counting the votes. Hundreds of thousands of Hondurans must have their votes counted. Democracy must prevail!", he affirmed.
