Rowing, athletics, judo and boxing propel the Dominican Republic on Day XI of the Bolivarian Games

LIMA, Peru. The Dominican Republic delegation had a productive day this Wednesday on Day XI of the XX Bolivarian Games, with six new medals won in rowing, athletics, judo and boxing, consolidating its seventh position in the general medal table with a total of 43 medals (8 gold, 11 silver and 24 bronze).

OARS

Ignacio Vásquez wins gold in men's singles

Rower Ignacio Vásquez shone by conquering the gold medal in the men's single sculls (LM1x) event, in the competitions held at Cantolao beach, La Punta.
Vásquez dominated the 200 meters with a time of 1:31.96, reaching his second medal of the event after the silver achieved in the lightweight double sculls.

Venezuelan Andre Ricardo Mora Sosa won silver (1:35.30) and Peruvian César Cipriani Robles took the bronze (1:36.90).

In other results:

  • Vásquez and Jancarlos Tineo finished in fifth place in the men's double sculls (M2X) with a time of 1:30.97.
  • The women's duo Wendy Simó Peña and Alisson Galay Morales did not finish their race in W2X.
  • This Thursday, Vásquez, Tineo, Simó and Galay will compete in the mixed quadruple sculls (4Mx+).

ATHLETICS

Men's and Women's 4x100 Relays Conquer Silver

The Dominican selection added two silver medals in the relay races held at the Videna Athletic Stadium.

Men's 4x100 Relay:
The team composed of Christopher Reyes, Melbin José Marcelino Olivo, Lidio Andrés Feliz, and Yancarlos Martínez stopped the clock at 39.20 seconds, escorting Colombia, which won gold with a Bolivarian record of 38.73. Venezuela obtained the bronze (39.31).

Women's 4x100 Relay:
The sprinters Fiordaliza Cofil, Liranyi Alonso, Patricia Siné, and Milagros Durán recorded 44.23 seconds, only surpassed by Colombia (44.00). Chile completed the podium with 45.08.

Other results on track:

  • 200m Men: Lidio Andrés Feliz was fourth (20.73), while Christopher Reyes came seventh (21.01).
  • 200m Women: Milagros Durán was seventh overall with 24.38.
  • 400m Women: Estrella De Aza finished fourth (54.10) and Bianka Acosta sixth (54.65).
  • 400m Men: Wilbert Encarnación was fourth with 47.36.

JUDO

RD closes with bronze in mixed team

The Dominican representation took the bronze medal after defeating Peru 4-1 in the mixed team modality, played under a "round robin" format. The Quisqueyan judokas fell 2-3 against Colombia and 1-4 against Venezuela, concluding third in the general table of this sport with "nine medals" (3 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze). In Valledupar 2022, RD had won two golds (Moira Morillo and José Nova), a silver and a bronze.

BOXING

Two bronzes secured and a place in the final

Boxing added two bronze medals due to the intervention of Elen Roble (51 kg) and Johan Agüero Montaño (60 kg), while José Agustín advanced to the final and secured at least silver after defeating Bolivian Jimmy Quiroz (+90 kg) by RSC. Agustín will compete for the gold this Thursday against Gerlon Congo, from Ecuador. Roble fell 0-5 to Peruvian Ana Baylon and Agüero was surpassed by RSC in the second round by Colombian Yilmar González.

BOWLING ALLEY

In the women's singles final, the Dominicans finished as follows:

EQUESTRIAN

RD is in fourth position in the Mixed Team Jump, with a total of 26.82 points. In the mixed individual general jump:

  • Aida Sánchez Ravelo: position 8 (5.97)
  • Manuel Fernández Haché: position 20 (20.32)
  • Manuel Bancalari Elmúdesi: position 28 (56.61)

GOLF

Willy Pumarol signs 67 and rises to second place

Willy Pumarol had an outstanding second round with 67 strokes, four under par, placing second in the general classification with a total of 137, tied with Chilean Gabriel Francisco and Venezuelan Juan Miguel Ramírez. Colombian Manuel Torres leads with 132 after a round of 64. Dominican Juan José Guerra is seventh with 140 strokes after a 68 in the second round. Golf is played in four rounds.

SKATEBOARDING

  • Juan Fabián Ruiz advanced to the men's park final with a score of 8.63.
  • Ámbar Silverio qualified for the women's street final by reaching 6.00 points.

Peter Bertrán advanced to the semi-finals of the men's singles tournament after defeating Bolivian Santiago Lora 6-2, 6-1.
