Rains and storms will mark the farewell of 2025: 6 provinces on green alert

Santo Domingo.- The country will receive the year 2026 under a rainy outlook, due to the incidence of a trough associated with a frontal system that will be generating showers, which will intensify during New Year's Eve night and the first hours of the New Year.

According to the weather report, although the morning began with mostly clear skies in a large part of the national territory, from morning hours cloud increases are expected that will cause showers on the Caribbean coast, including Gran Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal and Peravia.

These precipitations will evolve in the afternoon and evening into moderate to heavy showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts.

The rains will be more frequent and intense in provinces in the east, northeast, and central region of the country, right at the time when the population is preparing to welcome the new year.

Given the risk of urban flooding and possible flash floods in vulnerable areas, the meteorological authorities maintain a green alert for six provinces, including Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Samaná and Sánchez Ramírez, urging the population to remain vigilant.

For Wednesday, January 1, 2026, it is expected that from early morning the showers will continue, being heavy at times, with thunderstorms and wind gusts in several provinces of the country, so caution is recommended to those who travel during the festivities.

The New Year will arrive accompanied by rains in a large part of the national territory.
