Chile's President-elect highlights DR's progress in tourism, infrastructure, and immigration policy

Santiago. — The President-elect of Chile, José Antonio Kast, valued this Saturday the development, economic growth and security levels exhibited by the Dominican Republic, upon beginning an official visit to the country with an agenda in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros. Kast arrived accompanied by his wife, María Pía Adriasola, and was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez; the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre; and the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Víctor Ito Bisonó, who welcomed the delegation and participate in the coordination of the agenda of the elected president during his stay. During his visit, the president-elect recalled that he has been to the Dominican Republic on several occasions and highlighted that the country's progress continues to draw his attention, noting the sustained advances in development, growth, and security in different areas.

"I met the Dominican Republic 35 years ago and it never ceases to amaze us with its development, growth and levels of security in all areas," he said.

He indicated that for Chile, it is key to observe successful experiences in strategic areas, especially in sectors such as tourism and infrastructure, with the purpose of knowing firsthand the factors that have driven national development and evaluating lessons that can be applied to the Chilean reality.

Likewise, he highlighted the exchanges previously held with Dominican authorities in international forums, which facilitated the organization of this institutional approach to learn about the Dominican model of growth and public management. In immigration matters, he highlighted that the Dominican Republic has developed a relevant and exemplary policy, in line with the complex reality shared by two nations in the same island territory, characterized by marked social, economic, and structural differences. Upon his arrival in Santiago, the president-elect was also received by a delegation of deputies and officials. The visit is part of a tour of Central America and the Caribbean that includes meetings and activities related to regional cooperation, security, and migration.
