Abinader promises infrastructure investment of more than RD$1,025 million

Santiago.– The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, inaugurated this Sunday several highways and inter-community streets in Tavera (La Vega), Sabana Iglesia (Santiago) and Las Charcas (Santiago), works that will directly impact the connectivity, economy and quality of life of thousands of families in these communities with a global investment of RD$ 1,025,073,394.94. These works are part of the contributions of the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID) to the communities around the Tavera-Bao Hydroelectric Complex, within its Social Responsibility Program, which, in addition to benefiting the population, facilitate the transfer of equipment and machinery of the institution.
Tavera- La Vega
In the municipal district of Tavera, with an investment of RD$ 637,702,106.53, the president inaugurated the Loma La Gallina-La Cabra, La Jina-Loma La Gallina, El Morro-El Desecho and La Jina-El Morro roads. While addressing those present, President Abinader highlighted his family roots in this district and in Sabana Iglesia, reaffirming his personal commitment and that of EGEHID to the Sierra region.

The president recalled that this area has been key to the country's energy and water development, but for decades it did not receive a fair return, a situation that his administration seeks to reverse with new investments in infrastructure. He announced that the pending sections of the roads intervened in Tavera will be completed before December and assured that he will personally follow up on the progress to guarantee their completion. Likewise, he highlighted EGEHID's social responsibility program, which carries out community works in the towns near the dams, impacting the agricultural, economic and social development of the Sierra. On his part, the general director of the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID), Rafael Salazar, highlighted the work of the community, which was key in the monitoring of the work where they had constant communication with the engineers and contractors. From the work, the sections La Herradura-Cruce de Baitoa and La Herradura-Embalse de Tavera were also reconstructed and paved in hydraulic concrete, where a ramp with parking for vehicular access was also built. In addition, the roads connecting the main highway with the Tavera dam wall were delivered, including an access in front of “Teo Restaurant” for tourists, and another section towards the tourist viewpoint that EGEHID is building in the area.
Sabana Iglesia and Las Charcas
In Sabana Iglesia, the head of state inaugurated the Sabaneta-Hoyo del Cercado and El Fraile-Yerba de Culebra highways. In the same act, the reconstructed and asphalted streets of Las Charcas (Santiago municipality) were delivered, with a joint investment of RD$ 387,371,288.41. The works included around 6 linear kilometers of roads, including Niño Tavárez, Manuel Díaz, Principal street towards the CORAASAN tank, entrance to Los López, El Naranjo-Cruce de Guayacanal, streets parallel to the new high school of Las Charcas, streets 3 and 4, accesses to streets 5A, 5B and 5C, as well as streets 6, 7 and Primera, in addition to the roads near Ochoa Las Charcas, Los Cuervos, those surrounding the cemetery and Doña Pura. In Las Charcas, complementary works were also carried out, such as the construction of two gabion walls on the main road Jánico-Santiago de los Caballeros and a box-type bridge on the Las Charcas-La Barranquita road. With these works, the Government reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of life of the population through a comprehensive road works program that strengthens connectivity between communities, boosts economic development, and facilitates access to essential services.
