Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Health recommended this Saturday to take the necessary preventive measures to avoid diseases due to the rains that have occurred in the country in the last hours.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, due to the accumulation of water and incorrect handling of food or consumption of contaminated water, cases of dengue, leptospirosis, and acute diarrheal disease (ADD), among others, could increase.

In that sense, it recommends consuming only potable water or, otherwise, boiling it, filtering it, or applying five drops of chlorine per gallon and letting it sit for 30 minutes.
For the storage of water for domestic use, the Ministry recommends applying chlorine to the water stored in the tanks, with a clean cloth, spread chlorine on the walls, at the same level as the water and keep them covered, avoiding the reproduction of mosquito larvae.
Likewise, he urged to wash and keep kitchen utensils clean, consume safe food and store it properly, wash food cans before opening them, wash fruits and vegetables correctly, avoid bathing in downpours or having contact with dirty water, animal excrement, avoiding contaminants or factors that can produce leptospirosis. Also remember the importance of constantly washing your hands with enough soap and water, after going to the bathroom, before eating and handling food, as well as using tissues when sneezing to avoid flu viruses. In addition, the proper disposal of waste is necessary, not putting garbage bags on the sidewalks during the rain, but placing them inside the containers or waiting for the passage of the collection trucks. The Ministry of Health instructs not to self-medicate and in case of fever, diarrhea, vomiting, respiratory conditions or general malaise, among other symptoms, to go immediately to the nearest health center. In that same order, it urges to take special care with risk groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, boys and girls, people with chronic diseases and with mental health disorders.
