In 2021, more than 29 thousand couples divorced, one every 17 minutes after the pandemic

Santo Domingo. – The year 2021 left a historic mark on the matrimonial landscape of the Dominican Republic, as 29,998 divorces were recorded, the highest figure in at least a decade, according to the most recent data from the Civil Registry Observatory of the Central Electoral Board (JCE). The rebound occurred right after the pandemic. Interestingly, the previous year, 2020, recorded the lowest number of divorces in that period, with just 13,050 cases, partly due to the temporary closure of the courts and the slowdown of legal processes.
