Santo Domingo.- The Second Collegiate Tribunal of the National District sentenced this Thursday to seven years in prison to Alexis Medina Sánchez, brother of former president Danilo Medina, after finding him guilty of bribery, money laundering and association of wrongdoers in the framework of the Antipulpo case.
The sentence, handed down in the early hours of the morning, establishes that Medina Sánchez must serve the sentence in the Najayo-Hombres Correctional Center.

According to the ruling, the Public Ministry proved that Alexis Medina used his political influence and family ties to obtain state contracts irregularly, channeling funds to companies owned or controlled by him. The file details fraudulent operations, bribes to officials, and money laundering from those contracts. Judges Claribel Nivar Arias (president), Yissel Soto, and Clara Sobeida Castillo concluded that the accused was part of a network that, for several years, took advantage of public resources in violation of the Procurement and Contracting Law, causing a millionaire loss to the State.About the case
The Antipulpo case came to light in November 2020, when the Public Ministry filed charges against a group of former officials and businessmen led by Alexis Medina. The investigation revealed that the accused had created a corporate network to benefit from contracts from institutions such as the National Police, the National Health Service (SNS) and other state dependencies.
