Ramón Bueno: "Criminal Code will be approved without grounds; severance will remain in Labor Code"

Santo Domingo.- The deputy Ramón Bueno questioned this Friday the position of the business sector regarding the reform of the Labor Code and defended the legislative process of the new Penal Code, amid criticism from feminist groups for the exclusion of the three grounds and from businessmen who reject changes in labor legislation. Regarding the Labor Code, Bueno pointed out that employers only defend their own interests. "You already know my position regarding businessmen, they only think of themselves. They don't think of others, of the workers," said the legislator, while warning that they will not allow setbacks in labor rights.

The deputy, representative of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), assured that the article that maintains the severance will remain intact, as happened in the Senate. "Severance will remain in place, and the employers who make an effort, but they cannot continue to run over the citizenry and the workers who are the poorest classes in the country." Regarding the Penal Code, which has been harshly criticized by feminist groups for not including the three grounds for abortion, Bueno supported the work of the Bicameral Commission that studied the piece. "According to the 33 members of the commission, who did an excellent job, the Senate has already approved it in the first reading and is going to approve it in the second reading, as it happened," he explained. The legislator added that in the Chamber of Deputies they are only waiting to receive the initiative to submit it to a vote. "That is agreed upon with all parties, with everything we do in political life in that National Congress. Therefore, Dominican society can be sure that, before the legislature closes, they will have the Penal Code that we have been working on for all this time," he assured.
